 Blatant Propaganda
 Bicycling Magazine - July 2008
We took the look, style and simplicity of our track bike, Sanchez, and created the Del Norte. The main difference is that we designed the frame and fork dimensions for more versatile riding. Unlike the Sanchez, which is designed around narrow track bike dimensions and track hubs, Del Norte can accommodate a wider range of tires and traditional full fenders with stays. Wider tires means wider range of riding options. Skinny tires means a skinny range of riding options. Flat bars are an option, if you prefer. E-mail kickstand@swobo.com if you prefer flat bars on your Del Norte.

Custom Swobo spec includes powder-coated red hubs, rims and chain; chromed steel drop bars and Swobo saddle with bottle opener. Dual-function pedals can be ridden with street shoes, or bike shoes with SPD cleats.

The rear wheel is set up with a single-speed freewheel, or the hub can be flipped and ridden as a fixed gear. Which in laymen's terms means that you can have that track bike look and...well look...with the option of having the rear wheel spin freely. Tight pants and empty messenger bag pulled high and tight onto your upper back works with either hub configuration. Extra-long reach front and rear brakes accommodate fenders. Rear rack and fenders mount to our custom forged dropouts with threaded eyelets.

We make Del Norte in 5 sizes, to fit most people. When our optional Planet Bike fenders are ordered along with the bike you save $9.99.

Go to our Hard Parts section of our site to order them, and the fender savings will be calculated in your shopping cart.
br/>Swobo reserves the right to make small spec changes in the course of production.

From the guy who said it above, this my daily driver as well. So smooth and versatile, I take on strolls with the dog and even to work on occasion. Trying to to convince the wifey to jump on board with on. Two thumbs up!

Two Years: Still going strong, a few minor replacements due to wear. This thing is bomb proof, two winters biking in Chicago and still looking fine, easy to disassemble and maintain in the winter. I could go on.

Had my Del N since July. Bike commute daily 15 mi each way. Changed the stem to a 4-bolt, put a 15T fix on the flop, put my 32 year old brooks saddle on it, added a rack and used the optional fenders. Smooooth ride, quiet, and jammin. Got quite a few, 'dude that bike is dope' comments along the way. Only complaint was the two bolt stem, could use a 4 bolt to keep the track bars rock solid for just a few bucks more on the retail price. If you want a stable plush singlespeed/fixie, this is one of the better options out there..

I had my Del Norte for nine (9) months now and love it. I commute to work about twenty (20) miles a day and have put over 3,000 miles on it. The only changes I've made is a 16t sprocket on the read and a Dixon seat post. I really like Swobo's people and their products. Treat yourself to some Merino wool, you'll love it.

Ok, I got this bike on 5-15-09, and its dope. The fit and finish on it are first class and it comes almost ready to ride out of the box. I rode an SE Draft before this and the DelNorte is definitely a step forward from that. You cant see in the pics but the top tube isn't round its kinda triangular which is really strong and cool looking. Anyway if you like SS you'll dig this, its impossible not too!

One year review I traded and 06 conquest for my DelNorte last summer when they came out. The steel has wonderful dampening qualities. Coming off of the alum was like a dream come true! To maintain this bike all that needs to be done is: clean bike, tighten bolts screws and nuts, and you are on a basically new bike again! After riding this bicycle for my main mode of transpo in PDX for a year I am still very happy with the bike. flipped the bike hard when sprinting, my left foot slipped off and stomped the ground. Flipped the bike a few times at high speed and the only problem was a taco shelled front rim. everything else is true still....(cept for the seat rails!) Only complaint would be the bar tape. after riding for a year the shiny silver finish has faded into flat finish...now I have no problem with the looks of that, but seriously, is that finish in my blood stream now?? You should fix that problem!

I fell in love with this bike while it was still oversold and getting it felt like an age! But it was well worth the wait. I'm completely satisfied without changing any stock parts just yet, and get mad compliments! Everywhere I go people walk over to talk about my Del Norte.

super happy with the bike. easy assembly, even for a dummy like me. rides nicely, although the saddle is not the most comfy. i could do without the silver bar tape too, but a great buy all the same...

first off i love the bike! there are a few things that i did to mine that made it better for me, first i fliped the stem upside down so it was droped more. i got a new seat cuz that one didnt fit me very well, i liked the seat just it wasnt the right kind for me. i got a bigger chain wheel in the front from a 42 to a 45 and changed the back from a 17 to a 16 so now i can ride with out peddeling out like before. THE FORK IS SUPER HEAVY! i got a carbon litespeed fork and put it on there along with a thiner front tire (i love the stock tires tho) and now it rides so fast! the bike has great handeling and is as solid as a tank. i like it a lot

I unpacked my new 60cm a few days ago; only took me 10 minutes to have it up and on the road. The bike is sweet! The gals and guys at Swobo go above and beyond in there service and expertise. Sky Yaeger is a “Badass” bike designer and Stevil, seriously, “Is really something to behold.” I love their clothing too. I got a pair of the wool knickers and can’t take them off; “the chicks dig them!”

Bike is super dope! The deep v's are strong as hell and you dont have to worry about having to jump some stairs or curbs or anything as i did with my last bike. comes with some trill wheels. the bar tape kinda sucked but thats a quick change. flip flop rear hub for fixie riding. SICK BIKE!! get it get it get it

Never thought I'd believe the hype about a bike, but I love this! ITs my daily ride and everywhere I go I get comments... loads of the guys at work are proper roadies or triathletes and they all love the look of this baby! Everything on it is just perfect for the mean english streets and the tyres give plenty of grip in our rough northern rain!

The Del Norte is a solid ride, smooths out the bumps and pot holes of my Chicago streets, fat tires add the cush. The geometry works and the bike is so sleek and simple. Only problems I know is people keep trying to steal it because it is so pimp and the stock seat isn't so comfy, hurts my bits and had to go.

I bought this bike back in April. I got into biking after moving to Portland, OR, and this was my first "real" bike. Before, I was biking on some P.O.S. Schwinn I bought at Target (I know better now). After I knew I'd commit to biking, I tried out my boyfriends one-speed road bike and fell in love with the concept. Out I went on my hunt. I e-mailed several shops about my wants and needs, and got a response from one guy saying I HAD to check out the Del Norte. I went to the shop after passing up a Masi I thought I'd dig (too slim of tires), and gave the Del Norte a test ride. I didn't want to get off. I didn't even want to give it back to the shop for the twenty or so minutes they needed to check everything out. And once I possessed it, I didn't want to stop riding. It is so smooth and so fast and so easy to ride (save for up those mountains, but any one speed will get you there). My boyfriend is envious. My roommate is envious. I didn't let anyone else ride it for months. And, yeah, it is an attention getter. I had some guy shout at me, "That's a f**king sweet ride!" ...while he was on the job helping customers. Great, great bike for the price. Light, fast, strong. I love, I love, I love.

Been commuting on my Del Norte 30 miles/day since March. I couldn't be happier! The silver bar tape was pretty slippy, so that had to go, but other than that it's awesome. The spec Vittoria tires lasted me forever. Super smooth and durable ride. Doesn't suck AT ALL.

A proper urban workhorse from the get-go. Nothing is less than well-considered here: you're paying for this quality upfront and won't have to swap things out six months or a year down the line. You'll be the envy of your friends.

Hella bling. Put succinctly. Smooth, slick, sleek, sleuth-like. The whole aesthetic sits well with me, actually. No complaints. Nice job.

You can't deny the way it looks- amazing. Better yet the bike is also very practical. Having always preferred SS for commuting, the Del Norte more than lives up to the duties that I require. Even with rather harsh feeling Specialized Armadillo tires (can't beat the puncture protection) it still rides beautifully smooth. I'm not a fan of coloured chains of silver bar tape- which I switched out. But they're really minor things. Other than that with my own favourite saddle (WTB Rocket) this bike is rock'n! The paint is thick and scratch resistant, although I've done a little electrical taping. Yes it's a little more pricey than the vast $300-$600 'off the shelf' SS/FG commuters, but you can feel the difference in the ride.

This is the best bike I own, it's my daily driver. Not only does it ride amazingly, but parked out in front of the bar I work out it gets massive kudos for how pimp it looks.

New to the S/S action (after years of MTB and hybrid riding) and the Del Norte offers the finest introduction - solid commuter that handles like she's on rails, glides over the concrete jungle of potholes and neverending road construction, and climbs with minimal effort! I cannot imagine a more enjoyable ride!

I like bikes. A lot. I have 4 of them. The Del Norte immediately leapt to the front of the pack and took "favorite bike" status and has had a deathgrip on it ever since. Gets me wherever I need to go, in a fun and stylish manner-- also has taken a good bit of abuse and held up like a champ. Just riding the Del Norte down the street makes me smile.

I ride my Del Norte every day to work, and it's the finest ride I've ever owned. Working on this bike is as easy as it gets - one gear, no headaches. Great control (essential on the streets of SF), light, solid construction, and that green/red/silver combo... the ladies do like it.

I've had my Del Norte now about 6 months. I love the great versatility. Right now I have a rear rack, blinkie light, and fenders set up for commuting, but during the summer I can run her naked and have a simple fixie look. The 32 stock tires are muy comfortable and I swapped out the down bar for an upright laid back cruiser bar. This really makes the chicks turn their heads. Solid bike down to the bone.

Posted by: Ken starr | September 23, 2008 9:21 am

This is one sweet ride. I have had my del norte for a couple months now and it is my main commuter and errond bike and i love it. The steel frame and 32c tire soak up bumps in the pavement and the red accents get lots of looks.
